My husband, Michael, is a Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. As a Sargeant in the United States Marine Corps, he and his unit performed military police duties in the Al Anbar Province (Ar Ramadi) and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his work with the biometric enrollment system. We are so proud of him and thankful for the sacrifices of all our service men and women!
My husband knows how to juggle! He even shared his skills at a fundraising performance for the Spencer Community Theatre a few years back. Mike also serves in other capacities—as a volunteer (along with the children and me) for ‘Love Spencer’ (showing Christ’s love through a day of service in our community), Jr First Lego League mentor and helping to coach our son’s T-Ball team and assist his basketball team.
The birth of my son, Christian, was full of excitement. Through the readings on the fetal heart monitor, I was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome, a congenital heart condition that resulted in episodes of extremely fast heart rate. That finding, in addition to the loss of family members to heart disease, is what really motivated me to make changes in my life to make heart health a priority—for my family as well.
Christian also loves Legos! It is because of his love for building that I worked to help launch a Jr FIRST Lego League in our community. My husband and I serve as mentors to small groups of 6-9 year olds. Each year, the club members explore a real-world challenge, then using concepts of Science, Engineering, Technology and Math, they create a model using Legos and present it to others. We learn and have fun!
