Mrs. Tennessee International®

Carrie Schween

1.If you were famous what would your stage name be?
I am most grateful for overcoming postpartum depression. I believe the emotional pain I went through with this disease was purposeful. My recovery enabled me to embrace motherhood, establish a strong connection with Michael, and strengthen my marriage and family. It opened doors that allow me to experience the joy of helping others as they work through their own challenges with this disease. Rising out the darkness has become my life’s work.

2.If you would attend a celebrity wedding which, would it be?
Time is precious. I have a busy routine and many competing priorities. As Mrs. International, the demands on my time will grow, as will the need to “Be Present” for my children, husband, and platform. I must be even more effective about my time, give myself fully to each moment and avoid the false hopes of “multitasking”. In so doing, I can be a better mom, better spouse, and stronger representative of the International system.

3.What is the weirdest gift you’ve ever received?
Holding hands with my husband! His warmth and strength fill me with confidence and I realize there is nothing I cannot do, no obstacle we cannot overcome. He is my inspiration and best friend. The challenges of marriage are many, and we face those challenges together and through adversity become stronger. My wish is that we can be a model for our children and a positive inspiration for those I might impact as Mrs. International.

4.What is the most random fact you know?
“It’s my life, so live it!” I came to this realization in my mid-twenties. At one time I was too willing to allow external influences affect my choices. The desire to make others happy is very powerful. I have learned that in being true to myself, I reveal God’s plan for me. And that positively impacts the people I love, the world around me, and enables me to more fully cherish every day.

5.What is the one thing you’ll never do again?
I love the sound of my alarm clock! Well, not EVERY morning, but since my recovery from postpartum depression, it is uncommon to wake up without feeling excited for the day ahead. I make a point each morning to pause and think about what a privilege it is just to be alive…to be healthy…to have the love of my family and friends…to be on an amazing journey. A beautiful day begins with a beautiful mindset.
